Requiems for Relaxation

Reading time: < 1 minute

As I lounge around on a “not feeling worth a damn” kinda day, I am listening to my new relaxation and sleep music. I have many ways I try to relax but music seems to be the most effective for me. As a bonus, the music I am listening to also seems to help me focus when I decide to actually work on something. I doubt you will believe me when I tell you what it is!

My Latest Hobby

Granny square

Hello, dear reader

I spent a good deal of my time yesterday learning a new hobby–and am still learning! My mom has made crocheted afgans and such for as long as I remember. I’ve always been fascinated by the process but we’ve never both had the time to work on teaching me at the same time. Yesterday, she sat down and showed me one of the  most basic types of crochet, the granny square. [Read more...]

Walking in the cold

The Sunday Walk

I started working on my second goal for this year! Mom and I went walking–in the below freezing temps I might add–at a local park. I had a good time, and feel a bit better than I have in days. The only bad thing is we came up with the idea AFTER we’d left the house for the college. So we didn’t have scarves or gloves…and I had to get her SO to bring my tennis shoes. But it was a start, and starting is the second hardest part. Keeping going seems to be the hardest of all for me. I am hoping with mom as my walking buddy and our plans to walk at least on the two days we have morning classes that I will be able to get over that hurdle.

I also grabbed a spread sheet template to test different scenarios to see how soon I could hit 200 lbs realistically. If I keep my diet at around 2500 calories and work up to at least 3 times a week doing moderate activity…looks like May of next year. *sighs* However, in just under two months at that past, I should loose about 14 to 15 lbs. The last is much more motivating than the first, to say the least!

I think I might get something I can put on a page to track my progress on each of my goals. I wonder if you, my dear readers, would help hold me accountable for when I start slacking? Would be even more motivation to know people are watching my progress–esp those I don’t know– and might even be using my progress to inspire them to get started or keep going.

So…would you help nudge me along with a comment or an email if I start slacking–which you would see by whatever I find to embed in a page on here? Would you check it fairly regularly?

Facebook to allow users to police each other

In an article from Mashable, I read that Facebook is developing an application to allow users to flag content as inappropriate with categories including Not English, Spam, Nudity, and Drugs. Somehow this seems a bit silly to me. There are probably a good number of better solutions with less of a concern about user’s abusing the system.

Something Else I’ve Used To Kill Time

Microsoft Publisher

As some of you may know, I’ve been doing anything and everything I can think of to kill time so I don’t obsess over this whole being over 6k miles (including an ocean!) away from someone I love very much. Well, in one class, someone mentioned Microsoft Publisher and how easy it is to use. Boy were they right! I’ve gone crazy with some design projects.

I have just spent most of the day fooling around with my plug ins. This is absolutely addicting!! Laughing Out Loud I have tried and discarded many plus there are ones that I’ve yet to fully test the functionality. Though I am sure my listings of what plugs rock versus which are the pits as I use them more, I am going to give you all a list of seven plug ins that I think are pretty awesome. [Read more...]

After a day of stress, this blog is finally moved and spiffy! I had to try 10 different themes, reinstall my word press all together, and I am probably going to think of more plug-ins I want.

November 21

Well, I have finally gotten past the block on creating in PSP. So far today I have done about four new graphics and they are all fairly good. None of them are as dark as some of my past ones, but that is probably a reflection of my current mood.

Watching TV

America's Got Talent
Image via Wikipedia

Thursday, Sept 12

Who would have thought watching TV could bring on a case of “miss him so much it hurts”? I surely didn’t.

I knew watching the finale of America’s Got Talent might be a bit rough emotionally (which boggles me a little), but I figured I could handle it better than what I did. I pretty much spent half the show trying NOT to turn into a blubbering pile of goo. I more or less succeeded, but it was a hard won battle at times. [Read more...]
